Questions about this data
- Where does this hail data come from?
- From the NOAA/NWS Storm Prediction Center's severe weather reports: hail reported by trained spotters, emergency managers, and the public, from 2010 through the latest finished day.
- Why might a hailstorm I remember not appear?
- Reports come from people who saw the hail, so they cluster near towns and roads. If no one reported a storm, it isn't in the data. No report does not mean no hail.
- How far from the address does the lookup search?
- 10 miles in every direction from the street address you enter. The PDF report covers 5 miles.
- What are wind reports?
- Reports of severe thunderstorm wind, usually gusts of 58 mph or more, sent to the Storm Prediction Center by spotters, emergency managers, and the public. A speed is listed when one was measured or estimated; some reports have none.
- What is the PDF report for?
- It is a one-page record of the hail and high wind NOAA recorded within 5 miles of the address since 2010, with the source and the data date. Keep it with your property records or share it with your team.
- How often is the data updated?
- Every night. The Storm Prediction Center revises recent reports for weeks, so we reload the last 60 days each night. The Data through date shows the latest finished day.
- Does this show whether a property was damaged?
- No. It lists hail reported near an address. It is not a damage or insurance assessment.
- How can I check several properties?
- Look up each address here and we'll email you a PDF for each one. For a whole portfolio, send us the list with the form above.
- Can Cloudbreak check every property in a portfolio?
- Yes. Send us your properties and we'll pull the NOAA hail history for each address, then watch them and let you know when a storm tracks toward one.
