About this data
- Each city counts days with at least one wind report within 15 miles of its center, not of any one property. A day counts once, however many reports it has.
- Days a year is the 10-year total divided by 10. Cities with the same total share a rank.
- Reports come from trained spotters, the public and weather stations, and most describe damage, such as trees or lines down. Places with more people, trees and power lines log more of them, so this measures reported severe wind, not how windy a city is.
- This is not a damage or insurance assessment.
