Gusts, tornadoes and hurricanes in Atlantic City
Estimated peak gusts
2 days since October 1, 2021 had an estimated peak gust of 58 mph or more at Atlantic City.
| Day | Estimated peak gust |
|---|---|
| Jan 9, 2024 | 58 mph or more |
| Jan 6, 2024 | 50 mph or more |
| Dec 17, 2023 | 58 mph or more |

Estimates: the highest gust of each storm day in NOAA’s hourly 2.5 km wind analysis (URMA), which fills in between weather stations. Analyses like this smooth out short thunderstorm gusts, so they are best for widespread wind (hurricanes, winter storms, high wind days); for thunderstorm wind, NOAA’s wind reports are the better record. Not a measurement at any building.

Storms in Atlantic City
New Jersey's state climatologist says the coastal zone gets about half as many thunderstorms as the northern part of the state, because the nearby ocean helps stabilize the atmosphere.1 On the New Jersey coast, nor'easters bringing strong winds and heavy rain are most frequent from October to April, the state climatologist says.1 A National Weather Service Mount Holly study of 1984 to 2013 reports across its forecast area, which includes Atlantic County, found damaging thunderstorm winds most frequent in June and July.2
Notable storms
