Select a dot or a path for the report. NWS survey teams walked the shaded paths after the storm; each is drawn at the widest width they found, so it can look wider than the damage at any one spot. Gust lines are estimates: the highest gust of the day in NOAA's hourly 2.5 km wind analysis (URMA), which fills in between weather stations. They aren't measurements at any building.

What happened

Early on May 10, two EF2 tornadoes, each with peak winds of 115 mph, converged on Tallahassee. They were on the ground between 6:38 and 7:14 a.m. EDT.1 Along the northern tornado's path, falling trees damaged numerous homes and businesses, some commercial buildings had roof and siding damage, and several warehouses were severely damaged.2 Two people were killed by falling trees.3 NOAA's Storm Events Database reports 174 structures destroyed and 742 with major damage, plus at least $50 million in damage to the city of Tallahassee apart from homes. It lists about $184 million in property damage in Leon County from the two EF2 tornadoes.3,2

On the evening of May 9, a storm dropped hail estimated at 6.12 inches across in Johnson City, Texas, around 7:21 p.m. CDT. Hail 2 to 3 inches across then fell from south of Dripping Springs to San Marcos, where it broke several house windows.4,5,6 The Storm Events Database carries initial estimates of $10 million in property damage each for Blanco and Hays counties.4,5

In Delta County in northeast Texas, 80 mph winds around 4:22 p.m. CDT damaged house roofs and metal roofs, and wind-driven hail injured 7 people.7 Around 10:34 p.m. CDT, winds estimated near 100 mph cut a path about 1.5 miles wide and 5 miles long from the Jackson, Mississippi, airport toward Brandon, snapping trees and causing minor roof damage. A falling tree killed one woman.8
