Select a dot or a path for the report. NWS survey teams walked the shaded paths after the storm; each is drawn at the widest width they found, so it can look wider than the damage at any one spot. Gust lines are estimates: the highest gust of the day in NOAA's hourly 2.5 km wind analysis (URMA), which fills in between weather stations. They aren't measurements at any building.

What happened

At about 2:38 p.m. EST, winds near Norfolk Naval Air Station in Norfolk, Virginia, likely from a gustnado estimated at 90 to 95 mph, flipped five helicopters onto their sides.1 NOAA's Storm Events Database lists $50 million in property damage from that event.1

In Nebraska, hail up to 2 inches across fell along a path near Giltner in Hamilton County at about 5:45 p.m. CST, with $250,000 in property damage listed there.2 Earlier, at about 3:35 p.m. MST, winds of 52 knots (60 mph) blew shingles off buildings northwest of Ogallala in Keith County.3
