Select a dot or a path for the report. NWS survey teams walked the shaded paths after the storm; each is drawn at the widest width they found, so it can look wider than the damage at any one spot. Gust lines are estimates: the highest gust of the day in NOAA's hourly 2.5 km wind analysis (URMA), which fills in between weather stations. They aren't measurements at any building.

What happened

On the afternoon of July 3, 2025, severe storms dropped hail 1 to 2 inches across from New York's Finger Lakes south into the Southern Tier.1 Near Binghamton, golf ball size hail cut a damage swath about 2.5 miles wide and 5 miles long, with widespread damage to homes and vehicles.1 NOAA's Storm Events Database lists $20 million in property damage from that hail in Broome County, and NWS says the full damage to buildings and vehicles in the region is not known.1 In Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, a downburst with winds of 65 to 85 mph, reaching 90 to 100 mph in spots, snapped trees and damaged multiple houses around Oakland and Susquehanna Depot.2

Before dawn on July 4, storms over the Texas Hill Country dropped up to 11 inches of rain, and the Guadalupe River flooded catastrophically in Kerr County.3 NWS reports the flood killed 117 people in Kerr County, where county officials estimated 2,000 structures were damaged or destroyed.3 The Storm Events Database lists $200 million in damage to public property and infrastructure in the county, with no estimate for private property.3
