What happened

Late on the morning of June 30, a microburst with winds estimated up to 90 mph hit two campgrounds near Cooks Falls in Delaware County, New York, where falling trees heavily damaged or destroyed many RVs and campers. One woman was killed and at least one other person was injured.1 That afternoon in Ridgeway, Anne Arundel County, Maryland, storms blew down many large trees and power lines. A man was electrocuted by downed lines, and a tree fell onto a house and partly collapsed its second floor. NOAA's Storm Events Database lists $300,000 in property damage there.2 That evening, winds estimated at 70 knots (81 mph) blew down hundreds of large trees in northern St. Mary's County near Charlotte Hall and Mechanicsville, and NOAA lists $250,000 in property damage there.3

In Wyoming, storms crossed central Laramie County between about 7 and 9 p.m. MDT with gusts of 70 to 80 mph, destroying pole barns on the northern edge of Cheyenne.4 Near Chaparral in Dona Ana County, New Mexico, winds estimated at 74 knots (85 mph) collapsed a garage and a metal shed and rolled an RV camper onto its side.5
