Select a dot or a path for the report. NWS survey teams walked the shaded paths after the storm; each is drawn at the widest width they found, so it can look wider than the damage at any one spot. Gust lines are estimates: the highest gust of the day in NOAA's hourly 2.5 km wind analysis (URMA), which fills in between weather stations. They aren't measurements at any building.

What happened

An EF3 tornado with peak winds estimated at 140 to 150 mph tracked 34.5 miles from southwestern Jack County, Texas, through the west side of Jacksboro and into Montague County on the afternoon of March 21, 2022. It was about half a mile wide in Jacksboro.1 In western Jacksboro, many homes had considerable roof damage, some walls were hit, and some structures that were not well secured collapsed. Nine people were injured.1 In Grayson County, an EF2 with winds near 130 mph flipped manufactured homes in the Sherwood Oaks community before crossing Lake Texoma. NOAA lists 105 structures damaged there, 53 destroyed and 27 with major damage. One person was killed in a mobile home and 11 were injured.2

In Williamson County, an EF2 with winds up to 135 mph tracked about 29 miles from Round Rock into Bell County. It tore roofs from homes, damaged businesses, warehouses and metal buildings, and injured 16 people.3 A second EF2, with peak winds near 130 mph, hit the Elgin area. It damaged 109 homes and one business, destroyed 20 of those homes and the business, and injured three people.4 Hail 2 inches across fell in New Braunfels.5

Later that evening, an EF2 tornado north of Crockett in Houston County severely damaged at least 30 structures, killed one person and injured 10. NOAA's Storm Events Database lists $5 million in property damage from it.6 An EF1 through Madisonville damaged several homes and businesses, with $1 million in property damage listed.7
