What happened

A hailstorm hit Denver and its western suburbs on the afternoon of May 8. Hail 2.75 inches across, baseball size, fell at Edgewater in Jefferson County at 2:05 p.m. MST, and 2.5-inch hail fell in Denver a minute later.1,2 The hail damaged cars, homes and businesses across a large part of Denver and the suburbs of Arvada, Lakewood and Wheat Ridge, punching holes in siding, breaking windows and tearing screens.1 NOAA's Storm Events Database lists $2.3 billion in property damage for the storm.1

Hail and heavy rain also clogged drains and caused flash flooding across Greeley. Garden-level apartments flooded, and several businesses and other buildings had flood damage.1
