What happened

Hail the size of hen eggs fell near Hulen Street and Vickery Boulevard in west Fort Worth at 6:10 a.m. CST on March 17, 2016, and hail damaged numerous homes, businesses and vehicles along west Camp Bowie Boulevard.¹ NOAA's Storm Events Database lists $200 million in property damage for that report.¹ Hail 2.5 inches across fell at the TCU campus at 6:15 a.m. and in Arlington at 6:38 a.m., and golf ball-size hail hit south Arlington at 6:52 a.m.^2,3,4

Farther northeast, winds estimated at 70 knots (81 mph) struck Clarksville in Red River County, Texas, at about 8:25 a.m. CST.⁵ Several older buildings there had their metal roofs peeled back, a couple of gas stations lost their canopies or had them collapse, and nearly every street in town had some wind damage.⁵ The database lists $250,000 in property damage in Clarksville.⁵ Near Bagwell, at about 8:15 a.m., a number of homes lost shingles and siding.⁶
