What happened

In northeast Oklahoma, a storm crossed Nowata County on the afternoon of September 7 with hail up to baseball size and wind gusts of 80 to 100 mph.1 At about 2:15 PM CST, wind-driven 2.75-inch hail at Nowata broke windows, damaged roofs and siding on homes, and damaged cars.1 Minutes later, a downburst near the Nowata airport, with winds of 87 knots (100 mph), destroyed at least three mobile homes, killing three people in one, and damaged roofs and siding on a number of houses.2 At the airport, wind tore the doors off one steel hangar and much of the roof off another.3

In Arkansas, winds of 70 knots (81 mph) at the Batesville airport around 6:50 PM CST destroyed three hangars and damaged or destroyed four airplanes, and NOAA lists $2 million in property damage there.4 Golf ball to baseball size hail broke car windows and damaged roof shingles at Dover, Arkansas.5 In Missouri, baseball-size hail fell across northern Columbia along Interstate 70, and hail up to tennis ball size broke several windows in Warrenton.6,7
