What happened

Severe storms caused extensive damage across Colorado's Urban Corridor on the evening of July 13, 2011, and hail up to 4.5 inches across fell at Watkins in Adams County around 8:40 p.m. MST.1 In Watkins, softball-size hail cratered the north sides of mobile homes and damaged 35 to 40 homes, two people had minor injuries, and up to 200 residents of a mobile home park were left homeless.1 At Denver International Airport, golf ball-size hail and gusts to 59 mph damaged 40 planes and 83 cars in the airport's parking lots.1 The Storm Events Database puts the total damage estimate across the Urban Corridor at $164.8 million.1
