What happened

Severe thunderstorms hit south-central and southeastern Pennsylvania on July 25, 2010, with most of the severe weather in the lower Susquehanna Valley between 1 and 3 p.m. EDT.1 In Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, winds estimated at 56 knots (64 mph) brought down large trees that punched holes in roofs, and many homes in town had water damage.2 An EF1 tornado touched down in the Riverdale section of the Bronx, New York, that afternoon, and trees crashing through windows caused seven minor injuries.3

Hail up to golf ball size broke home windows in Adairsville, Georgia, and the Storm Events Database lists $437,000 in property damage there.4 Winds estimated at 60 knots (69 mph) in Fordyce, Arkansas, blew awnings off some downtown businesses and damaged roofs of several businesses and homes.5 The Storm Events Database lists two deaths tied to the winds: a child killed by a falling tree in Sterling, Virginia, and a woman police suspect was electrocuted by a downed wire in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.6,1
