Select a dot or a path for the report. NWS survey teams walked the shaded paths after the storm; each is drawn at the widest width they found, so it can look wider than the damage at any one spot. Gust lines are estimates: the highest gust of the day in NOAA's hourly 2.5 km wind analysis (URMA), which fills in between weather stations. They aren't measurements at any building.

What happened

On the evening of June 5, 2025, one supercell produced eight tornadoes across Cochran, Hockley and Lubbock counties in West Texas.1 Two tornadoes near Smyer in Hockley County, rated EF1 and EF2 with winds up to 130 mph, damaged or destroyed manufactured homes and other buildings and injured two people.1 One hailstone 5 inches across was reported 7 miles south of Anton.1

After the last tornado, from about 7:54 to 9:00 p.m. CDT, downburst winds estimated up to 115 mph and hail up to 2.5 inches swept an area up to 6 miles wide across west and southwest Lubbock.1 NWS Lubbock reported that many buildings in the city had significant roof and window damage, with broken windows and skylights reported as far south as Wolfforth and as far east as Avenue Q.1

Earlier that afternoon in Oklahoma, winds near 120 mph cut a damage path at least 18 miles long and up to 3.5 miles wide across southwestern McClain County, damaging roofs on at least six homes and damaging or destroying nine barns or outbuildings. NOAA's Storm Events Database lists $1 million in property damage.2
