Select a dot or a path for the report. NWS survey teams walked the shaded paths after the storm; each is drawn at the widest width they found, so it can look wider than the damage at any one spot. Gust lines are estimates: the highest gust of the day in NOAA's hourly 2.5 km wind analysis (URMA), which fills in between weather stations. They aren't measurements at any building.

What happened

On the afternoon of May 26, 2025, a long-lived supercell moved southeast from southeast Tom Green County to around Menard and then into Mason County in west central Texas, producing many reports of very large to giant hail around Menard.1 A storm chaser with the ICECHIP research group reported a few hailstones measuring 5.51 to 5.87 inches across near Menard.1 A trained spotter measured 3.75-inch hail in Tom Green County, 4 miles east-southeast of Knickerbocker.2

That evening in South-Central Texas, 3-inch hail broke windows west of Fredericksburg, and 3-inch hail fell at Culebra Road and Talley Road in northwestern San Antonio.3,4

Late that morning in central Louisiana, winds up to 90 mph cut a path through northern Pineville in Rapides Parish, dropping large trees onto several homes, tearing apart outbuildings and pushing over power poles. NOAA's Storm Events Database lists $250,000 in property damage.5 An EF1 tornado with winds near 100 mph crossed Grant Parish near Bentley, mostly snapping and uprooting trees, with some roof damage east of Bentley where trees fell on structures.6
