Select a dot or a path for the report. NWS survey teams walked the shaded paths after the storm; each is drawn at the widest width they found, so it can look wider than the damage at any one spot. Gust lines are estimates: the highest gust of the day in NOAA's hourly 2.5 km wind analysis (URMA), which fills in between weather stations. They aren't measurements at any building.

What happened

Storms crossed southwest Missouri on the morning of April 29, 2025, and Springfield-Branson National Airport measured a 90 mph gust at 9:34 a.m.1 NWS Springfield reported significant tree and structural damage, especially in Greene County and Springfield, and NOAA's Storm Events Database lists $10 million in damage from the wind in Greene County.1,2 Two EF1 tornadoes with 90 mph winds crossed Lawrence County, one south of Freistatt and one from between Verona and Aurora into eastern Aurora, damaging roofs.3,4

That afternoon a line of storms crossed from southeast Ohio through western Pennsylvania, with measured gusts of 77 mph near West Alexander and 75 mph near Churchill.5 Around Pittsburgh, wind stripped shingles, siding and fascia from homes in Robinson Township, Carnegie and Murrysville, and blew out a wall in Edgewood.5 Falling trees killed a man in Ross Township and a car passenger in Greene County, Pennsylvania.6,7 Farther east, NWS State College estimated a 110 to 120 mph gust that knocked over a cell tower in Cambria County, and reported a building collapse in Sunbury.8 A man in State College was electrocuted by power lines the storm brought down.9

In north Texas, hail up to 5 inches across fell south and east of Guthrie in King County that afternoon.10 That evening, an EF3 tornado near Seymour destroyed farm buildings, and hangars, planes and vehicles at the Seymour Municipal Airport.11 Winds in nearby Munday, in Knox County, toppled a radio tower, snapped power poles, broke windows and damaged roofs.12
