What happened

At 11:34 p.m. CST, an EF3 tornado formed in McNairy County, Tennessee, and moved through the west and north sides of Selmer, damaging numerous homes and destroying several.1 Its peak winds were estimated at 160 mph. NOAA's Storm Events Database lists 5 deaths, 14 injuries and $11 million in property damage in McNairy County.1 At 5:28 p.m. CST, an EF3 tornado with 160 mph peak winds crossed Craighead County, Arkansas, causing significant damage to homes in Lake City and on the west and north sides of Monette. It injured 8 people and caused $4 million in damage in the county.2 Between 11:24 p.m. and 12:28 a.m. CST, EF3 tornadoes collapsed the walls of homes near Linwood in Tate County, Mississippi, and near Slayden in Marshall County, with $2 million and $2.5 million in damage listed.3,4

In the afternoon, an EF3 tornado with winds up to 165 mph caused significant damage to homes in northwest Latty in Washington County, Missouri.5 Late in the evening, an EF3 tornado with 145 mph winds hit an industrial area of Jeffersontown, Kentucky, collapsing concrete tilt-up warehouse walls and peeling off metal roofs. It also damaged apartments and homes.6 In Brownsburg, Indiana, an EF2 tornado hit several warehouses hardest, where a wall caved in and injured 1 person, and damaged the roofs of over 20 homes.7 Hail up to 2.75 inches across broke car windows in Forrest City, Arkansas, and tennis-ball-size hail caused minor roof damage to a few homes and businesses in Howell County, Missouri.8,9
