Select a dot or a path for the report. NWS survey teams walked the shaded paths after the storm; each is drawn at the widest width they found, so it can look wider than the damage at any one spot. Gust lines are estimates: the highest gust of the day in NOAA's hourly 2.5 km wind analysis (URMA), which fills in between weather stations. They aren't measurements at any building.

What happened

On the evening of June 26, tornadoes hit Allegheny and Westmoreland counties in Pennsylvania.1,2 An EF1 tornado tracked from the Wilmerding and East McKeesport area through Trafford toward Harrison City, damaging thousands of trees and causing minor roof damage in Trafford. NOAA's Storm Events Database lists $1 million in property damage from it in Allegheny County and $500,000 in Westmoreland County.1,2 A second tornado, rated EF2, ran nearly 11 miles across Westmoreland County, damaging roofs and snapping trees.3

Earlier that day, winds estimated near 90 to 100 mph damaged homes and destroyed barns and other buildings in Briar Creek Township and near Martzville in Columbia County, Pennsylvania.4,5 In New Mexico, a trained spotter measured a 91 mph gust near Hagerman in Chaves County, where the wind tore part of a metal roof from a home and downed 40 to 50 power poles. NOAA lists $200,000 in property damage there.6 Late that night, an EF1 tornado with peak winds near 100 mph crossed Lincoln and Cumberland, Rhode Island, where uprooted trees fell onto homes.7

Storm winds killed four people: falling trees killed one person each in East Orange, New Jersey, Dutchess County, New York, and Willimantic, Connecticut, and a child died when a boat with eight people aboard capsized on Lake Texoma in Grayson County, Texas, where seven people were injured.8,9,10,11
