Select a dot or a path for the report. NWS survey teams walked the shaded paths after the storm; each is drawn at the widest width they found, so it can look wider than the damage at any one spot. Gust lines are estimates: the highest gust of the day in NOAA's hourly 2.5 km wind analysis (URMA), which fills in between weather stations. They aren't measurements at any building.

What happened

NOAA lists $700,000 in property damage in Leake County.2 In west Tennessee, an EF1 with peak winds near 100 mph damaged homes, businesses and a large metal industrial building in and near Jackson, with $500,000 in property damage listed.3

That evening in Alabama, a tornado reached EF3 strength with winds near 145 mph in Perry and Bibb counties, where it snapped and uprooted tens of thousands of trees in national forest land.4,5 Early on March 31, an EF3 tornado with winds up to 150 mph in Washington County, Florida, swept away two anchored manufactured homes and destroyed a wood-frame house.
