What happened

On the morning of April 2, an EF1 tornado in St. Martin Parish, Louisiana, rolled a mobile home over and killed two people inside.1 In the afternoon, an EF1 with 105 mph winds in Rapides Parish lifted parts of flat roofs off businesses along Jackson Street and broke business and vehicle windows. NOAA's Storm Events Database lists $750,000 in damage.2 An EF2 with winds of 125 to 135 mph crossed La Salle Parish from Rogers to Trout, damaging homes and other buildings in Belah and Trout, with $1 million in damage listed.3 Other EF2 tornadoes damaged buildings in Aimwell, Catahoula Parish, and in Franklin Parish, injuring three people in all.4,5

In Texas that morning, winds of 75 to 80 mph damaged roofs, chimneys and patios on many homes around Lakeway and Point Venture on Lake Travis and damaged several marinas. The database lists $1 million in damage for each of the two reports.6,7 Winds estimated at 90 mph destroyed a large metal building in Boerne, and in Panola County, winds near 120 mph tore off metal roofing and an 80-foot steel beam.8,9 That evening, hail the size of baseballs and larger broke windshields on vehicles in Rio Hondo, in Cameron County.10,11
