What happened

Hail up to 5 inches across fell in and around Post in Garza County, Texas, late on the afternoon of May 22, 2016. Broken car windows were the only damage reported.1 About 10 miles west of Big Spring in Howard County, an EF3 tornado was on the ground from 6:13 to about 7 p.m. CDT. It tore large sections of roof from homes, and at one home it destroyed the whole roof and partly collapsed the outer walls.2 Near Garden City in Glasscock County, an EF3 and an EF2 tornado struck between 8:42 and 9:02 p.m. CDT. The EF2 rolled and destroyed a manufactured home.3,4 In Hall County, an EF2 tornado near Plaska destroyed a barn and toppled utility poles.5

Late that night, downburst winds estimated near 100 mph snapped and uprooted trees across a ten-block area of south central Grand Forks, North Dakota. In East Grand Forks, Minnesota, winds were estimated up to 105 mph.6,7
