What happened

Around 9:30 p.m. CST on June 5, 2013, a line of storms swept through Lubbock, Texas, with measured gusts up to 72 mph.1 In northern Lubbock, some buildings lost their roofs and thousands of windows were cracked or shattered. Buildings with broken windows or damaged roofs also took water damage inside.1 NOAA's Storm Events Database lists $400 million in property damage from the winds in Lubbock.1 From near Ransom Canyon into Slaton, a Texas Tech mesonet site northeast of Slaton measured an 82 mph gust, and an NWS survey estimated gusts near 90 mph with some of the damage.2

Earlier in the evening, at about 7:28 p.m., hail from golf ball to baseball size fell across Friona in Parmer County and damaged vehicles.3 Hail 2.75 inches across was also reported near Hermleigh in Scurry County at 8:27 p.m.4 Early on June 6, at about 5:45 a.m. EST, an EF1 tornado crossed a residential area of The Acreage in Palm Beach County, Florida, tearing shingles off several homes and partly lifting a couple of roofs. One person was seriously injured.5
