What happened

Early on the evening of July 7, a microburst hit Cuba, Missouri, and tore roofing from buildings in town. Flying roof debris shattered a car window in a parking lot, killing a woman inside and injuring a person in a nearby car.1 That afternoon in North Texas, storm outflow winds above 45 mph toppled a construction crane being taken down at the University of Texas at Dallas in Richardson, killing two workers.2

In central New Jersey, early evening storms hit southern Monmouth and northern Ocean counties hardest. Downed trees damaged several homes, and dozens of cars were damaged.3 A weather station in Brick Township measured a 78 mph gust, and Toms River Township had more than a dozen reports of property damage.4,5 Late that evening, winds in Charleston, Mississippi, blew trees onto a few homes, destroying one and causing two minor injuries.6

NOAA's Storm Events Database lists $770,000 in property damage from wind reports in 10 western Pennsylvania counties, most of them downed trees and power lines.7 Hail up to 1.75 inches across fell at Belmont and Stannards in Allegany County, New York.8,9
